Rock and Roll, the Anniversary

Posted on July 22, 2009 at 2:01pm 0 Comments

Just as my heart was finally starting to heal from missing out on the Led Zeppelin reunion at the O2 Arena. . .

THIS comes along: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/22/rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-plans-anniversary-shows/

That's right, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is celebrating their 25 Anniversary by holding a two-night classic rock blowout at none other than Madison Square Garden.

Springsteen. Crosby, Stills and Nash. U2. Simon and Garfunkel. Aretha… Continue

Fogerty, Fireworks and the Fourth

The Fourth of July is my favorite holiday. Backyard BBQ’s, usually accompanied by some Rock and Roll, then heading out to watch the sky explode at a safe distance with thousands of your friends and neighbors.

I thought I’d reached the pinnacle of Fourth of July fun several years ago, whilst running around a field lighting sparklers and blasting “Purple Haze” as big-time pyrotechnics exploded in the distance.

Until last night, that is - when I had the honor of sitting in… Continue

What Makes a Classic. . .

Posted on June 29, 2009 at 12:07pm 0 Comments

Hello fellow C.R.A.S.s Fans,

Imagine my horror when I recently discovered that LA's "Oldies" station has expanded its playlists to include classic hits from the 1980's.

Now I'm well aware of time marching on, but really? Genres aside, are Tina Turner and Spandeau Ballet now in the same category as Elvis, Cream and Iron Butterfly?

Which brings me to our next question: How does one define "Classic" Rock? For me, even including the Sex Pistols is pushing it. I'd… Continue

Introducing The Classic Rock Appreciation Society

Posted on June 25, 2009 at 1:21pm 2 Comments

Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,

It is with great honor, aplomb and perhaps a teeny bit of trepidation, that I hereby announce the start of a brand new blog and club of sorts, the Classic Rock Appreciation Society.

I'll be updating with news, views and perhaps an occasional inter-view regarding all things rock and roll, from soup to nuts (I expect they'll be quite a few of those. . .)

So won't you join me on this little adventure? And aren't you glad I… Continue

Do you have a few minutes to share your opinions on some songs by a new rock band? Check it out at www.newrockband.homestead.com It’s free. Not a scam. Just a young band who wants to get the music “right” before recording it. Thanks for your help. Stacey “Rock Mamma”
