Did Jim Morrison own a motorcycle? There are no pictures of Morrison riding a motorcycle while there are films of Jim riding a bike, on a boat, and driving his Cobra. In the biographies and the published reminisces of Jim’s friends there’s no mention of Morrison buying a motorcycle or arriving anywhere on a motorcycle. But documents say James Douglas Morrison owned a motorcycle.
Don Ince a vintage motorcycle collector and restorer of old motorcycles recently ran across a motorcycle…

Welcome to the future!
John Densmore has said he wouldn’t play with former bandmates, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, as The Doors unless Jim Morrison was singing with the band again. Aside from a few jokes in bad taste, that was an impossibility until Sunday night when Tupac-Shakur “appeared” at the Coachella Festival. So with the technology able to create a realistic image, can long dead rock stars appear “live” in concert again? Will The Doors cancel Jim Morrison’s cancellation to…

The Doors documentary "When You're Strange" was released theatrical today, April 9, 2010. Instead of using contemporary talking head interviews "When You're Strange" relied on the archival footage of The Doors 1968 documentary "Feast of Friends" (which never had been released theatrically, and The Doors edited portions of it for videos in the 80's), and Jim Morrison's film "HWY," the narrative of the film was provided by Johnny Depp's voice over.…

If anyone qualifies as being “the fifth Door,” it’s Paul Rothchild. As a producer for Elektra Records he was there from the beginning of The Doors professional career until almost the end.
Paul Rothchild also came to Elektra Records at a critical period in its history. Rothchild started as a record salesman, had connections in the New York folk scene, and evolved into producing by the time Elektra was expanding. When the music scene emigrated to the west coast and the burgeoning rock…

On January 28, 1968 Jim Morrison was arrested with author Robert Gover in Las Vegas. You can read the events of that arrest in The Doors Examiner article "Doors Lead Singer Arrested with Author." Last year on this anniversary Robert Gover was kind enough to share his thoughts and rememberances of Jim Morrison in a Doors Examiner article, here's the article as Robert…

It started with a static electric shock. Patricia Kennealy met Jim Morrison for the first time in the Plaza Hotel in New York for an interview for Jazz & Pop magazine January 25th, 1969. Kennealy who had seen The Doors perform the night before at Madison Square Garden didn’t know what to expect from Morrison, but from that meeting started an on-again, off-again relationship that lasted the rest of Morrison’s life.
Aside from Pam Courson, Kennealy may be the most well known of…

Danny Sugerman died seven years ago today at age 50. In the past I’ve run fairly ordinary stories on his life and accomplishments, so I wanted to find something that would give people a sense of Sugerman as a real person. One of Danny’s close friends graciously consented to write a memoriam for Danny. I hope you find it as sincerely moving as I did.
Danny Sugerman, Seven Years Gone
When paying tribute to the legacy of The Doors, there's probably one name that…

Concatenation. A series of events that leads from one to another, the cosmic clicking of kinetic balls that in retrospect seem inexorable and inevitable. that’s arguably what lead up to the events in New Haven, Connecticut December 9, 1967.
The events that happened the night before in Troy, New York, on December 8th, Morrison’s 24th birthday, set in motion the events that lead to Jim Morrison‘s arrest in New Haven. By all accounts, the Troy show was a terrible. First, Morrison missed…

It’s always interesting to be around for the birth of a Hollywood trend. In the 90’s Madonna started adopting orphans from third world countries and soon more celebrities were with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt adopting a child in just about any foreign country they visited. Now Doors fans may be witnessing the start of a new trend.

We’re supposed to have six degrees of separation from any other person on the planet (or from Kevin Bacon) but in Los Angeles proximity makes it a lot less than six degrees, and the fact that Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek were film students gives them ties and connections to the Hollywood film industry that came of age in the early 70’s.
It’s fairly widely known by Doors fans that Harrison Ford, before he became famous as Han Solo in “Star Wars” worked on The Doors film “Feast of…

Over the life of The Doors Examiner only a few stories are able to fit into a Halloween theme (or any other holiday theme), but there are a few Jim Morrison stories that fit into the holiday milieu. Let’s start with the ghosts.
The first appearance of Jim Morrison’s ghost in The Doors Examiner happened in the article, Jim Morrison’s ghost appears…again. That article…

Last week Daniel Nester’s essay ("When You're Strange") on whether Jim Morrison was a great American poet or not has been going around the internet, and while I thought it was going to lead to the usual conclusion, that Jim Morrison’s pretensions at being a poet were greater than his ability, it didn‘t, but it still instilled in me the urge for a response.
Naturally, as Doors fans we’re more predisposed than non-Doors fans to consider the poetry of Jim Morrison at least pretty good.…

“I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps, "Oh look at that!" Then- whoosh, and I'm gone...and they'll never see anything like it ever again... and they won't be able to forget me- ever.” Jim Morrison
Jim Morrison certainly had a clear vision of his life. He was born December 08, 1943, and passed away July 03, 1971. For those who may not know he was a singer, songwriter, philosopher, and poet. He is most famous for his work…
