Hello Classic Rockers Network!
It's been a long time since I stopped by, (sorry for that) but glad to see you're still going strong and continuing the rock and roll.
To reintroduce myself, I'm Jim Cherry I'm a writer and a Doors fan (why does this all of a sudden seem like an AA thing), I write The Doors Examiner, if you're a Doors fan and want to keep up with what's going on in The…

Four years ago yesterday the world lost one of the innovators, if not one of the creators of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Bo Diddly. Diddly influenced everyone from Buddy Holly, the Rolling Stones, The Animals, Jimi Hendrix, and The Doors.
Born December 30, 1928, as Ellas Otha Bates, he later recorded and wrote songs as Ellas McDaniel. Like many of the famous bluesmen he was born in Mississippi and moved to Chicago as a child where as a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church he learned to play the…

Welcome to the future!
John Densmore has said he wouldn’t play with former bandmates, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, as The Doors unless Jim Morrison was singing with the band again. Aside from a few jokes in bad taste, that was an impossibility until Sunday night when Tupac-Shakur “appeared” at the Coachella Festival. So with the technology able to create a realistic image, can long dead rock stars appear “live” in concert again? Will The Doors cancel Jim Morrison’s cancellation to…

The Doors documentary "When You're Strange" was released theatrical today, April 9, 2010. Instead of using contemporary talking head interviews "When You're Strange" relied on the archival footage of The Doors 1968 documentary "Feast of Friends" (which never had been released theatrically, and The Doors edited portions of it for videos in the 80's), and Jim Morrison's film "HWY," the narrative of the film was provided by Johnny Depp's voice over.…

If anyone qualifies as being “the fifth Door,” it’s Paul Rothchild. As a producer for Elektra Records he was there from the beginning of The Doors professional career until almost the end.
Paul Rothchild also came to Elektra Records at a critical period in its history. Rothchild started as a record salesman, had connections in the New York folk scene, and evolved into producing by the time Elektra was expanding. When the music scene emigrated to the west coast and the burgeoning rock…

It's quickly coming up on Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek's birthday. Born 2/12/39 it will be Ray's 73rd birthday. To celebrate and remember the coming day here are a couple of past Doors Examiner articles on Ray's birthday.
Last year we took a look at Ray Manzaerk’s Birthday that includes a slideshow of Ray's childhood Chicago neighborhood.

Hey Everybody!
I know I've mentioned to a few of you my Doors inspired novel The Last Stage. For those of you who would like to read it I've posted the book as a serial on a blog, the first two chapters are up and a new one will go up everyday! Here's the introduction with links to the chapters.
Writers want to be read. Readers want to read good books and discover new writers. It’s a leap of faith to ask readers to invest in an unknown writer and ask readers to buy a…

Danny Sugerman died seven years ago today at age 50. In the past I’ve run fairly ordinary stories on his life and accomplishments, so I wanted to find something that would give people a sense of Sugerman as a real person. One of Danny’s close friends graciously consented to write a memoriam for Danny. I hope you find it as sincerely moving as I did.
Danny Sugerman, Seven Years Gone
When paying tribute to the legacy of The Doors, there's probably one name that…

January 4th, 1967, Jac Holzman unleashed The Doors, in a burst of a single day. Elektra Records released The Doors debut album, a 45 of the first two singles off the album, “Break on Through” and on the flip side, “End of the Night”. To cap off the release Holzman put up the famous billboard of The Doors on Sunset Boulevard, which was the first billboard for a rock group on Sunset.
It had been a whirlwind spring and summer for The Doors. They started as the house band at The Whisky a…

Concatenation. A series of events that leads from one to another, the cosmic clicking of kinetic balls that in retrospect seem inexorable and inevitable. that’s arguably what lead up to the events in New Haven, Connecticut December 9, 1967.
The events that happened the night before in Troy, New York, on December 8th, Morrison’s 24th birthday, set in motion the events that lead to Jim Morrison‘s arrest in New Haven. By all accounts, the Troy show was a terrible. First, Morrison missed…

Some updates on articles that have run in the past few weeks, and a couple of new ones.
Late Friday for the past few weeks has been Jimmy Fallon’s big news day, especially since he did “The Reading Rainbow” in a Doors parody. This week Fallon announced that he has signed with Warner Music Records for a comedy album that will include his rock parodies such as his “Reading Rainbow” cover by “The Doors” as well Bob Dylan, and Neil Young. Warner’s has released comedy albums by other…

A Beatles Doors connection has always seemed vague and strangely undocumented. It was an early marker of their success when The Doors learned that The Beatles were listening to “Strange Days.” After The Doors European tour in 1968 Jim Morrison is rumored to have visited Abbey Road studios and even lent his vocal talents to the chorus of “Happiness is a Warm Gun.”

We’re supposed to have six degrees of separation from any other person on the planet (or from Kevin Bacon) but in Los Angeles proximity makes it a lot less than six degrees, and the fact that Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek were film students gives them ties and connections to the Hollywood film industry that came of age in the early 70’s.
It’s fairly widely known by Doors fans that Harrison Ford, before he became famous as Han Solo in “Star Wars” worked on The Doors film “Feast of…

Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger are writing songs that will be included in the movie “Manson Girls” that is being directed by Susanna Lo, and will star Taryn Manning, Tania Raymonde, Monica Keena, Stella Maeve, Estella Warren, Chad Faust, Ron Jeremy (as a porn director, quite a leap there), Eric Balfour, and Bill Moseley. “Manson Girls,” as the title implies focuses on the women of Charles Manson’s followers and how they came under Manson’s influence. The film follows the events leading up to…
