I had to comment on the 2nd british rock concert & the good time we all had, wow 38 years have gone by & I'm still here, I was stationed at Leigton Barracks, in Wurzburg between 1971 & 1973, me and a bunch of GI buddys went to alot of concerts while there, but none of them compared to Germersheim, Hey lost Bob Huth we must have run into the same guy who had the mescaline, my buddys & I bought a bunch of hits & we did them all weekend never went to sleep the entire time, smoking hash, drinking beer it was by far the heaviest concert I've ever been to in my life, I was 20 at that time, now i'm 58 my kids are in there 30s & I have 4 grandkids now, but those memorys are etched in my mind forever, you can hear some the bands music if you google Pink Floyd, Germersheim,Germany, 1972, then theres more links to that site, wow its really awesome connecting with people who were there to witness The Germanwoodstock, out of the 72,000 people who attended this event,15.000 were stoned & fucked up GIs, drop me a few lines about your thoughts on this time in your life, Enjoy

Rockangel---I saw your entry and had to comment---I was 17 and living in Wiesbaden when I went to the 1972 British rock festival----I can clearly remember there were a lot of drugs, drinking, fighting, loving, music and mud down by the river...It was wild---Best performances I remember were Max Merrit, Curved Air, the kinks and of course the late night appearance of Pink Floyd with teh smoke and flares....Somewhere in my attic I still have one of the posters and my ticket---hard to believe it was 38 years ago...regards

I saw both Deep Purple and Black Sabbath in Frankfurt. It seems to me that there were to Huge fests on that island. One in 72 and one in 73. Am I wrong?

After seeing Irene's Fest photo and the arrows where she was sitting...We were sitting really close to each other! I was to the left of her (more in the middle of the stage) and a couple three rows closer to the stage. The band that really got me was not listed...it was called Heaven...from England and they were doing Brass Rock...it was HOT!
We used to go to the town of Germersheim to the Discotech and see all kinds of bands. I think the best I saw there was Atomic Rooster. I saw Breggar's Opera in Heidleberg...they were an excellent show also.

I was stationed in Schwetzigen, near Germersheim, from 71-73. I was able to attend two HUGE outdoor concerts on the island in the Neckar River. we got to the venue a day early both times and were able to setup for the whole concert right in front of the two stages. WOW, were there a lot of people there! Pink Floyd did that huge sound system on towers around the crowd and it was TOO much when they opened with ECHO'S. It was a pain if you had to use the bathroom, it could take hours to get to the cans and back! But it was the most fun I have ever had. I would love to see some video or pictures of that crowd. The hash was everywhere and cheap. I was mostly tripping on mescaline and hardly ever slept. I was enjoying the music too much. Does anyone remember when Uriah Heep and Buddy Miles came on at the same time? The people threw stuff at The Heep to get them to stop so Miles' band could play...Them Changes? Oh, the good ol days!
