Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

I wish I could meet more classic rock band members, especially Jimmy Page or Robert Plant. The only classic rock band member I have met is Robbie Krieger from the Doors after a solo show he was playing- he was a very laid back guy!

I know that ClaptonLayla knows Eric Clapton pretty well, but who else on here has met or hung out with famous classic rock band members? And what was your experience? Let's hear it...

Update: Since writing this post, I met Paul McCartney in Hollywood, at Mel's Diner! Talked to him for a bit, very nice guy - I even mentioned this site and gave him my card for this site - so hopefully he has even been on here!

The biggest thrill for me was back in '70 when I was on my great adventure. One of my running buddies was one of the Allman's cousins. We visited the Macon farm (Idlewild South) and partied with the band. Duane Allman was just the neatest guy and about the only one I really remember that well. Greg was a bit standoffish.

I had the opportunity to roadie with Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes. Hung out with them at a show in Augusta, GA. I had some other stuff going on and didn't go. I kicked myself for not doing so.

I got to meet Jackson Browne and Jimmy Buffet at a private club in Columbia, SC, one night. JB was in town doing a show. Buffet's wife is from Columbia. So after the show Buffet brought JB out to this club. We shot pool with them that night. Very cool.

lol... My only other brush with greatness was at the Atlanta Festival in Byron, GA. Me and this guy helped a girl get to the OD tent. I didn't know it at the time until I saw them on stage the next day but the guy was Jim Messina of Poco.

I held a glass of water for the lead singer of classic rock cover band FM!!!!!

Will that count?????????????!!!

Met Charile Watts of the Stones back stage on the bigger band tour. Also met Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits at a free show in Iowa during the summer. Well waiting outside to meet Jeff Beck in April after the show I met Stray Cats member Brain Setzer. I had school the next day so I could not stick around.

Bobby Keys is also a really nice guy. If you have not heard of him he is the Stones sax player and has been for 40 years.

I forgot about running into John Mellencamp at JFK airport in NYC one time, mid-eighties I think. He climbed out of a limo right in front of me. Struck up a quick conversation.

If I listed all of them, I would sound like a nut .... but it is a long list. Great meeting them all. Being a musician, I got to jam with quite a few of them. Some of my story is on My Space. Check it out

I have spent a couple of evenings drinking with Iron Maiden back in the early 80's. Steve Harris even put me and my mates up once when we followed IM into Europe.... we had to sleep on the floor of his hotel room...

Great bunch of guys who we got to know.. but we got to know the roadcrew better.

I met Harvey Jett from Black Oak at a church. He became a Christian and he was singing there. Pretty cool.

Harvey used to come out and jam with my band in Nashville. At the "Lounge On The Hill"

That was back in the late 1980s

I think that he was living either in Mt Juliet or Lebanon, TN at that time.

The only band i've met and hung out with, is THE BEST Zeppelin tribute band called Get the Led Out.  I had a care package to deliver to the band from Martin Guitar.  I got to hang out backstage and chat with all the members.  Great bunch of guys.  And the Australian Pink Floyd.  I got to meet them through a PBS event. They are THE best Floyd tribute band out there as well.  As far as classic rock stars, not too many have passed through the plant.  I have met JJ French(twisted sister), John Mayor, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jim Root(slipknot/stone sour) and cristina scabbia(lacuna coil) among some others.  The perks to working at a guitar manufacturer.

Got to meet The Scorpions a few years back, Nazareth when Dan turned 60 or 61, Jerry Doucette, April Wine(we invited them to our annual April Wine Down party/Wife's Bday...Brian Greenway called to decline and wish her a good one. Trooper(Applejack) played at my high school many times way back in the day. REO Speedwagon, Chilliwack, Honeymoon Suite, Loverboy, Nick Gilder/Sweeney Todd, Prism, Kansas, Little River Band. Way back before they hit the charts used to listen to Heart belt out Zep tunes at a dinky little cabaret. (really long story....) Doug Bennett (Doug and the Slugs) was a super nice guy. R.I.P. The Stampeders, Powder Blues Band.

One of my great great aunts knew and socialized with Elvis when she was young.  I can't quite remember the whole story, but I'll ask a family member later and probably do a blog post on this site about it!:]

I guess it's not that cool..but I thought it was.

And oh my goodness..so here I am, talking about Elvis and Blue Christmas comes on!  The Irony!
