Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

I wish I could meet more classic rock band members, especially Jimmy Page or Robert Plant. The only classic rock band member I have met is Robbie Krieger from the Doors after a solo show he was playing- he was a very laid back guy!

I know that ClaptonLayla knows Eric Clapton pretty well, but who else on here has met or hung out with famous classic rock band members? And what was your experience? Let's hear it...

Update: Since writing this post, I met Paul McCartney in Hollywood, at Mel's Diner! Talked to him for a bit, very nice guy - I even mentioned this site and gave him my card for this site - so hopefully he has even been on here!

My friends dragged me to a Bruno Mars concert last year, and there was this guy who opened up for him, Mayer Hawthorne.  He seemed decent.  I got a pic with him.  not classic rock but somebody I guess.

A couple of years ago, I met Little Richard. He was sitting in the back of a limo outside the Asheville, NC airport. He rolled down his window to talk with me. We talked for about 15 minutes. He gave me a copy of a book he wrote , as well as a Christian book. He was amazing. I only wish I would have remembered to ask him about when Hendrix was in his band.

I've met Bruce Springsteen and Davy Jones from the Monkees.  Meeting Bruce Springsteen was quite funny actually.  Some friends and I had gone to Atlantic City to gamble and he was standing off to the side with 3 or 4 other guys (bodyguards we assumed).  My one friend says, wow, that guy over there looks just like Bruce Springsteen.  And the rest of us agreed that he did, indeed, look enough like him to be his brother.  He heard us talking and walked over to us!  He posed for pics (unfortunately, I don't have them, they got lost somehow....:-(  And talked to us for approx 15 or 20 minutes.  It was great.  What a nice guy.

Davy Jones was the headlining act at a gig that a friend of mine was playing at.  He played in a Grateful Dead tribute band and they were opening up for him.  I went to see him and his band and he introduced me to Davy.  He even kissed my hand, heehee.

I've also met numerous Beatles-related classic rockers at various Beatles conventions and fests I've attended.

I would be speechless if I ever met Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr.  I've been a fan of the Beatles forever!

Amazing stories, guys!

It's interesting hearing which stars turn out to be jerks, and which ones are really nice!

I'd be too star-struck to ever meet or even talk to any famous person especially in the music world! I wish I can meet Paul McCartney someday... he's been my first love ever since my 14th birthday when I became obsessed with The Beatles.

I also would have loved to have met John Lennon, George Harrison, and well, not much for Ringo Starr - I'd be too intimidated! Maybe in the '60s I would when he was less of a grumpy ole' man.

I'd also like to meet Eric Burdon, Don Henley, Neil Diamond, Justin Hayward, & Eric Stewart.

And also, lately since I got hooked to The Cars, I would have loved to have met Benjamin Orr.

I get to see and talk with Alan White (Yes) at the bar, pub?, he calls home. He loves my soups.  Gotten to meet the band too cuz we always get the backstage pass when they're here for a gig.  He's a really cool guy but then again, he's a drummers.

I saw the Stooges in 1970 in Minneapolis, and after the concert, which blew me away in the first place, we were standing on a corner by the Depot where they played. Iggy comes sauntering stumbling or whatever it was across the street and asks us where's the party, my friend Mike said to him, no party, but wanna get high and Iggy ended up riding around Minneapolis in our car for the next hour smoking reefer, I got to sit in the back seat with him and all I have to say is, Iggy is for real, no act. We let him out at the hotel he was staying in and said goodbye. End

All the members of Aerosmith, and Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen.

I have met Metallica, Levon Helm, Adrian Belew, Tinsley Ellis, Ynve Malmasteen ( not sure about that spelling) I was also in one of his videos! I have seen and done a lot more but it's 2 am and can't think good, but I wil be back! Promise!

August 2002, I was featured in a Tribeca Film Festival Project featuring an Atlantic City concert appearance by Joe Strummer and his new band the mescaleros! I was NOT supposed to be working the day he showed up at the back door with a filming producer in tow. I answered the door........http://blogs.atlanticcityweekly.com/ac-central/tag/music/page/2/

Joe would do one more interview on an underground Worcester Mass Cable TV station before heading to Japan for a Fall 2002 Tour. He would pass away unexpectedly at home Dec, 2002. Thereby making ME by all accounts the last american radio DJ to interview him**

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros 10th Anniversary Reissues:

I WASN'T supposed to work that one sunny, warm August day in 2002. BUT then the dreaded call every DJ/Program Director gets: "I'm sick, CAN'T come in!" Spitting nails to drop my plans with the wife that doesn't see me enough as it is, I made the trip in: Then a RoCK Star showed up announced..CLASH Legend and Punk Pioneer JOE STRUMMER! To mark the 10th anniversary of Joe's Band The Mescaleros' and his visit to Atlantic City in 2002, the local paper has rerun my story. Did NOT realize it at the time, from the timeline of his visit to his departure for a fall tour of Japan and his sudden, unexpected death in December, 2002, I would be the last american radio DJ to interview him.
