Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

1: Summertime
This is possibly one of my all time favorite Doors songs that is not on any studio album - its rarely, if ever heard on the radio. This mesmerizing instrumental song highlights Ray Manzarek at his organ playing best. Its found on a bootleg of one of their earliest shows - Live at The Matrix in 1967. Its so rare, I thought I would share a link of it:

2: Yes, The River Knows
This song finds Jim at his poetic best - but was actually a rare co-written song by all the Doors members. From a very under rated album, Waiting for The Sun, its short and sweet but very moving. It features Ray Manzarek on the piano instead of the organ for once - so good that perhaps they should have switched out his organ a bit more often?

3: Black Train Song
Now this is a song that should have been on a studio album. This 12 minute wonder work is as hypnotic as the title of the song suggests, and you can find it on the Doors 4 disc box set from 1998. Any true Doors fan should hear this right now if they haven't heard this yet. Here is the first half of it... you don't need a ticket... climb on board...

4: Not To Touch the Earth
This song sets you on blistering roller coaster ride of a journey. Featuring a great organ solo in the middle, and Jim at his shrilling best, no doubt about Jim running away with one of his girls. If this song doesn't define the Doors at the pinnacle of their career, then I don't know what else would. It's also from Waiting for The Sun - go listen to this whole under rated album again right now...

5: The Changeling
Often overlooked because of the other amazing songs on the L.A. Woman album, it really deserves more attention and credit. You can just imagine Jim dancing and hopping around on the stage to this liberating, funky organ driven song. It supposedely about a mystical creature - but was it really about Jim's life - shortly before his death? True musical genius.

Also Queen of the hwy....now they are wedded she is a good girl naked as children out in the meadows naked as children as wild as can be" and Awake Ghost Song..."awake, shake dreams from your hair my pretty child my sweet, choose the day, choose the sign of your day, the days divinity, first thing you see" Peace Frog is a big fave "there's blood on the street its up to my ankles, there's blood on the streets its up to my knees"  :D

I have a ridiculous love for the doors so if you asked me, every Doors song is under appreciated(; but, I have to agree with you Rich!
