Classic Rockers Network

Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

Hi there! We thrive on feedback and suggestions to help improve Classic Rockers Network for you and everyone else. Therefore, we would love to hear your thoughts!

In particular, what would make you use Classic Rockers Network more often? Is there anything on it that is lacking? Or is there is a particular new feature or idea that you would like added? Maybe a wish list of new features? Or if you could only change one thing, what would it be? Just some ideas to help you help us...

Please post your ideas and suggestions below. We appreciate it!

Keep on rockin'

Yeah, its tough to get people chatting and interacting - thats why I need you two to help out and start getting others to chat ;)

How about badges based on participation?

...um more Led Zeppelin?

If more people volunteered to run the fan groups it would be a lot less work for Rich.

Look back at the thread. It does look like Rich waited until he got feedback from members before he added the Yes fan group.

Hi peeps!

I don't suppose this suggestion will be taken up cos it goes against the 'anonymity thingy' (or something - don't know what you call it) but as there never seems to be anyone sticking around to talk for long, how's about making anyone who visits the site available on chat for a short time (whether they want to be or not) it would 1. let us know just how many peeps are visiting us and 2. give everyone a chance to encourage new peeps to stay by telling them things about the site and how wonderful it is etc.!  As I say it would only be for, say, 15 mins, but enough to get them to interact with us.  I'm sure a few of us regular rockers would keep an eye out for the newbys and welcome them to the chat room!

BTW have we got a 'counter thingy' that lets you know how many peeps are visiting the site - members & visitors?

There should be a counter. I was on a couple other Ning sites which have closed. They both had counters on the home page and counters on the profiles. They actually had detailed information about the profiles that were being visited. Maybe this information is hidden here or not available any more. Yeah it is hard to get people in chat because many are not really chatters or too busy to chat. Thinking if people feel forced to chat they might not visit the site as often..

Oh yeah, I don't think they'd feel as if they HAD to chat, they can always just ignore us, but it would be much better than not knowing if you're the only one on the site!  Just like now; it looks as if there are only 3 people visiting but out of 2,827 members - that can't be right!  Which is why we need the counter, I'd help to put one on but I'm totally useless at programming (or anything else techy come to that).  As for people not wanting to chat cos they're not really 'chatters', I was one of them when I first joined but after a week you couldn't shut me up hence the handle 'Chatty Rocker'! :)

This is the first time I have ever seen you online.. :) I have been here for a couple months.. Nice to meet you :)  Have someone doing some work in my home today. Sorry, I can't chat.. :)

I think as everyone else does that improving participation is the best improvement that could be made. The site itself and the ease of member contribution is great. But something is obviously missing, even though people continue to join the participation level does not seem to increase. Some if not most will for short period then they seam to fade away. WHY? Something is not meeting their expectations.

I suggest that a new "HOME" page that focuses more on current content and not so much on the side bar items. ie the fan groups, discussion lists, and top video lists etc. All of these areas are well known after a short while, so if the page concentrated more on new content it would invite responses and more participation.

One thing some sites do is have a side ways scrolling of hot or newer postings. The way the current home page displays new content you have to keep hitting the "more" tab at the bottom to navigate to further content is not very user friendly. If you click on something you lose your spot when you try to go back. Maybe a continuous scroll something more akin to dare I say FaceBook, would be better.

The current "home" page would then be changed to a "Welcome" page for visitors to entice them to join CRN, then a new "HOME" page for actual members to visit first to enjoy Classic Rockers Network.

I think most ning sites have about the same design. I am not sure if the side ways scrolling would be as simple as it sounds on a Ning site or even possible. I have friends that are admins on other ning sites. It is never as easy as it sounds. A lot of things depend on the software dev tool you are working with and the knowledge of the person that is developing and maintaining the site. Always easier said than done and in some cases it is just not possible. I am an application developer. I am sure there are other app dev on the site. I have been offered jobs as admin on other ning sites and I refused them because I dont want to deal with all the bs ;)

Those are some great ideas! Wish it was that easy to do them - Karen is right - its hard to change this Ning platform too much. I can strip away the homepage content and get rid of the modules for the groups, but then no-one would really see them when they get to the site, and even less people would use them! And instead of the ticker, i have the top content show up on every page - least people can see what is popular. i can certainly add more latest content items to the homepage - don't you like the latest video and photo section on there?
