Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

Great to see all the new members lately! I am curious in particular to know everyone's favorite classic rock books. I just love reading all about my favorite rockers. In particular, I loved reading Hammer of the Gods (led zep), Riders on the Storm (Doors), John (all about Lennon's wife), and Stone Alone (Bill Wyman).

Also, has anyone read the new Doors book yet? By Ben Fong-Torres - looks great! Anyway, I would love to hear your favorite books...

I've read few biography type rock star books. (did that sentence make sense?) I did read Many Years From Now by Barry Miles about Paul McCartney. I usually get reference books; discographies and the like. I'll give you a few examples. The Great Rock Discography by Martin Strong, or The Phish Companion by Phish. The 3 holy books in my collection though are 1. Way Beyond Compare and 2. That Magic Feeling both by John C. Winn and 3. Eight Arms To Hold You by Chip Madinger & Mark Easter. These three basically tell you everything that the Beatles ever recorded. OK, they're a little out of date, but my copies are pretty worn out. I'm a rabid completest. (is that spelled right? i'm thinking it should be -ist but it says that's wrong)
My favorite books are anything about the Beatles. I just can't get enough of them. The most recent one I've read is Pattie Boyd's book. If you haven't read this one yet, I highly recommend it. It's fascinating how she ended up with two of the most famous rockers of all time not only falling in love with her but dedicating some of the best known and loved songs of all time too. I just recently met her at the Fest for Beatles Fans in March of this year. It was a brief meeting (rush, rush) but it was still pretty thrilling to actually talk to her for a couple of minutes.
Other than the Beatles, I like biographies about rock stars. Their lives fascinate me.
I also loved hammer of the gods.I couldn't put it down and I'm not a big book reader.
I think I'd like to read one about Johnny Cash.He was quite the badass.
If your a John Lennon fan, read "Memories of John Lennon" by Yoko Ono. Different artist such as Alicia keys and bono talk about how they were influenced by him and friends of his talk about shared memories. You really get to see the true john lennon. It's an amazing book.
Light My Fire: My Life With the Doors - Ray Manzarek. My personal favorite. I think it gives a better written account of what was going on w/the Doors. Much more than John's book, not for the content of John & Jim not getting along, just that Rays a better writer.

Break On Through: The Life & Death of Jim Morrison. I really dig this book too.
Oh & I forgot.... Fong-Torres' book is awesome. Really neat getting some perspective from Jim's parents. An excellent pick up when/if you get the chance.
One book that I thought was really good. ( And yeah I'd put 80s rock bands in classic rock-land) Anyway a book I thought was great was Nikki Sixx-The Heroin Diaries. It was a compelling book....I couldn't oput it down (yet there were some parts that were very difficult to read) I read the book in a day for the first time and have read it a second time. Just thinking of how big Motley Crue were at the time and how things really were. I find him an inspiration! I also ordered The Dirt. I should be getting that in a few days :)
Also in The Heroin Diaries (I forgot to mention this).....There were the diary entries directly from Nikki Sixx..then the comments from people around him at the time. Really gives you a sense of what really was going on! Kurt Cobain's Journals is a good one too.

The Lost Writings of Jim Morrison, book of poems, entitled Wilderness.
Jim was first and foremost a poet. This book was amazing and meant a great deal to the author. :)
