Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

I saw the video where the dad has all his kids singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody (even the little one who looks like he is two.) My son wants to listen to B101- all crap all the time.

I wrote an open letter to this guy they are now calling "coolest dad in the world"

Priest.... thats got to have an impact...

awesome im doin the same with my kids

We always played classic rock for the kids, so they know the music, but that didn't stop them from going their own way. I swore when I was a teenager that I would never put down my kids music or tell them that what they liked wasn't music, and I never have. I even made the effort to be familiar with their music. No matter how painful! Times do change. It was always more common that they were telling me to turn it down!

I am with you Amstel on this one

I'm 13.  I consider myself fortunate to have grown up in a family where all the music I knew from ages 1-10 was classic rock, metal, smidgen of jazz, and some Broadway, mixing things up a bit! Haha.  My Dad Loves the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.  My brother's a total metal head but likes the Classic Rock too.  Don't get me wrong, I think it is great for children to explore different sounds, find their own individual musical taste, and not base everything off of their parents (whether it be music, politics, or belief systems).  Through doing so, I found the Doors, Led Zeppelin, etc.  Some people just find crap..  and if music is an expression of who we are than I guess that sorta sums that up:)

I know for me personally, I grew up on the radio my mom and dad played for me. Which was usually classick rock stations, which is why I enjoy the genre. I think radio is really effective because of the personalities on air, maybe because there is someone there, talking to you and seemingly playing these songs for you, whether you like them or not, and that is effective.

My youngest daughter certainly is.  She's a fan of rap and heavy metal..ugh, two genres of music I cannot tolerate at all.  My oldest daughter likes all kinds of music, including classic rock.  So I did right by one of them anyway, lol.  My parents listened to country when I was growing up so I'm also a fan of country music as well.

I personally wasn't turned on to classic rock and roll through my parents. I discovered it in the same way some rock and roll artists discovered it: By themselves. I just picked up a cd and started listening. That led me to listen to other bands from the same era. I don't feel that there is a "wrong musical path". I believe that there are some artists that don't do good justice to their genre. Every genre has stemmed from wanting to express oneself and even though it may have evolved into something distasteful, one should remember that it may have began as a form of poetry to the people.
