Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

Welcome to the first in a weekly series of 'gem' classic rock songs - each week I will cover a true 'gem' of a classic rock song - either rare songs or particular favorites of mine. We kick off the series with a true great from the Allman Brothers Band - Dreams.

From the Allman Brothers Band's first album (self-titled), Dreams is in my opinion one of the best (and underplayed) classic rock songs of all time. Its just genius with its slow build up, and Greg Allman's raspy blues voice singing about his world crumbling down because his dreams are stopping him from living his life - 'cause Im hung up on dreams Ill never see'. The great drumming in this song is the perfect accompanyment to the late great Duanne Allman's poetic blues guitar riffs.

This is actually the song that got me into the Allman Brothers... I suggest you listen to the whole album this is on - and then join up to Allman Brothers group on here and discuss songs like this on there!

Here is a great live video of this song:

Also, check out the great article in this weeks Rolling Stone - there is a great interview with Greg Allman.

Another great version is the Molly Hatchet version.
Yeah it was a good idea, but it took a while to do each one. You basically would have to do about one or two per week as a forum post, with some extra details like I did before, including options for the viewer to join up to the related fan group or see cool related content. Interested?
