Never say die was cool Dick a couple of really cool songs that never get played as well that i love JRs eyes is a jam. Linda I never knew you responded Ozzy is cool but Tony Iommi was probably the main dude in matter of fact I think it was right around Never Say Die when they approached Ozzy about the status or his status in the band was in jeopordy and of course I freaked out as well when they threw him out but DIO was a very capable singer with his own backing as well thats why even Ritchie Blackmore wanted him in Rainbow as well his track record was good to say the least. The only lps that Sabbath really suffered and I diod not even buy were the ones after Dio left that was the end unless Ozzy was back for a moment or Ronnie but all of the others were mere pretentders well I better get off of here before i have to pretend to sleep lol!

Glen, I agree with you about Skynyrd, and of course they aren't the only one's guilty of living off of a name. Sometimes the name needs to be buried with the band. But I started out with Ozzy. I have, before and after Ozzy, Black Sabbath albums. It just doesn't feel the same to me. I can't get use to my new step-father lol. Gotta have my daddy Ozz! And I know a lot of people that have no problem excepting replacements, but that's my problem, I'm too dedicated and loyal; one of my traits in life!

Linda I dont know its just like relationships you break up and move on sometimes better sometimes worse in Sabbaths case Dio added an element that Ozzy could never touch and of course Dio could never be Ozzy because only Ozzy could be Ozzy lol! So as I stated earlier its difficult to pick. Some others in my opinion should have been left alone such as Skynyrd who I loved in the original incarnation but never cared for the new updated watered down version just living off the name

I love Ronnie James Dio, but like any band to me, if they do not have the original singer, then they are not the true band. That's how I feel about Black Sabbath, without Ozzy, it's like faux pearls, not real. Same with Deep Purple, without Ian Gillian, they were just some band. To me, Ronnie James Dio will always be the original singer for Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, not Black Sabbath.

By the way Richard we need a Deep Purple page they are just as instrumental as Sabbath and Led Zeppelin and I can not believe that they are not on here and no one hasnt said anything?

Richard any of their first lps with Ozzy are a good start and than eventually go on to the Ronnie james Dio the other versions are like the Stones not as potent and not a good place to start but anything with the two mentioned is vital rock and roll one thing about Sabbath they never variated from their heavy metal roots Penney I think many were stuck on Iron Man when it came out it was the total I remebered my little brother would practice it over and over while he was teaching himself guitar my head used to feel like Iron Man lol!

Ok - I admit that I am still pretty new to Black Sabbath - one of the few classic rock bands left that I need to get into. From what I have heard from them, they sound very led zep like, which is great. What songs do you all recommend someone new to them listen to first?

Troy, Thats a qaugmire because both have their strengths DIO has the voice that could hit anything with ease and power but Ozzy has that certain attitude and being about himself so its a tossup I love almost everything they have put out and have all of the various solo Ozzys DIOs as well so I am just going to say DIOZZY lol! glen
