Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

David Bowie is surely one of the most interesting people in classic rock history. A true musical genius with some amazing songs like Life on Mars, Young Americans, Changes and Space Oddity, he has also had some very eccentric periods - particuarly his 'glam rock' Ziggy Stardust character phase. What does everyone think of him? What are everyone's favorite David Bowie moments and songs? Lets hear what you have to say...

the epoch of hunky dory is the best great songs also ziggy stardust and the spiders on mars
I've always liked the album, Station to Station. Songs like Golden Years and TVC-15. Not to mention Low was a landmark album in terms of production and innovation. Plus it had Sound and Vision on it.
There are so many incredible songs this guy wrote that literally transformed Rock, I almost really don't know where to begin. Well Yes I suppose.... it would have to be Space Oddity onward from glam to duke to berlin persona onward. He almost always never disappoints! But look at all of the albums that were amazing and still are such as Ziggy Stardust, The Man who Sold the World, Heroes, and one of my absolute faves - Scary Monsters.
I only got to see him once on the Serious Moonlight tour in the '80's in Anaheim, CA and he put on an absolutely entertaining show. A true showman with props, singing, mugging and great backing band. I came away very impressed and an even bigger fan of his.
Originally, despite the quality of the songs you mentioned, I was quite turned off by David Bowie. The glam image kind of creeped me out, and I was under the impression he was one of the individuals responsible for the death of rock "music" in the sense that he made it more about the show then the music, ultimatly leading to the very poor pop music (Britney Spears, etc.) scene of more recent years.

However, since I have given him more of a chance, and I have really come to love a lot of his songs that I never would have heard on the radio or seen in a movie.

I love the the Ziggy album and Hunky Dory. 'Five Years' is such a great song, I get so into it!
