Thin Lizzy to Join Judas Priest in North America
Sean Patrick Dooley | 06.16.2011

Batten down the hatches guitar fans because it has just been announced that one of the all-time great twin-guitar blitzkrieg bands, Thin Lizzy, will join forces with metal gods Judas Priest on Priest’s “don’t call it a farewell” Epitaph Tour.

Thin Lizzy has enjoyed a major resurgence over the last year, playing to packed houses all over the U.K., and MelodicRock.com reports they are set to bring their assault to the States with their most formidable roster in years. Led by a trio of long-time Phil Lynott-era Lizzie alumni, guitarist Scott Gorham, drummer Brian Downey and keyboardist Darren Wharton, the current line-up is rounded out by singer-guitarist Ricky Warwick (The Almighty) and Guns N’ Roses’ axeman Richard Fortus, who takes over for Vivian Campbell, who has just rejoined Def Leppard for the Lep’s massive North American tour.

“We love playing in the U.S.A., and it will be great to show the rest of the States what we are made of,” the California-born Gorham said. “We are all fired up and ready to kick some [expletive].”

I had noticed us Thin Lizzy fans didn't have a group of our own, so I asked Rich to hook us up. He did & made me the moderator (much appreciated, bro).

Like most people back then ('77-'78) My introduction to Thin Lizzy was their 1976 release "Jailbreak". I was just a 12 year old kid at the time, but that album blow my mind. It was also around the time I was beginning to identify myself as a "rocker" and had discovered KISS, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath other bands.

But it wasn't till the Summer of '79 that I truly fell in love with the band. I recently posted something about this in another forum. So instead of re-typing the story again, I'll just quote myself:

"I became obsessed w/ Thin Lizzy when I first saw them at the age of 14. It was the Summer of 1979 at the Miami, FL Jai-Alai Fronton. They were supporting their "Black Rose" album at the time. They had opened up for Journey during the "Evolution" tour. It was one of the earliest concerts I had attended and it still stands out as one of my most memorable. I own the entire Thin Lizzy discography to this day on vinyl & CD. Songs like "Warriors", "Fight or Fall", "Don't Believe a Word", "Massacre", "Bad Reputation", "Killer Without a Cause", "Chinatown", "The Rocker", and their "Live & Dangerous" album all are part of the VERY extensive soundtrack to my youth.
R.I.P. Phil & Gary"

Anyway, 'nuff said. Spread the word & let others in this community know that we Thin Lizzy fans can be found right here!
