On KLOS earlier tonight, I heard this AMAZING rock song that I had never heard before. The guy sounded like Bob Dylan, but there was a really heavy guitar solo all through it, so I figured it couldn't really have been Bob Dylan. Turns out it was a song called 'Lover of the Bayou', by a band called Mudcrutch.
I did some research, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Mudcrutch was Tom Petty's original band from the early 70's, before he formed the Heartbreakers.
Check out the song, particularly the great lead guitar work in it... strange band name though! This video below was for a brief band reformation in 2008. Originally this came out in the early 70's where Tom Petty hadn't quite developed his distinctive twang yet. But it will give you a good idea of the original:
i heard of mudcrutch on vh1 classic movies, tom was also in a band called the travling wellberries or something like that with bob dylan, roy orbinson, george harrison, and some others.
