In 1965, a little tune called She’s About A Mover by the Sir Douglas Quintet rocketed up the charts. It was a great song and most people thought it was the next big thing from Britain. Turns out organist Augie Myers and guitarist and lead singer Doug Sahm and their bandmates were from Texas. And it was the next big think alright – Tex-Mex.
Flash forward to 1990, add Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez and the next big thing was born – The Texas Tornados. The Tornados kept the Tex-Mex beat but whipped in country and rock for a truly distinctive and popular sound.
