I've been seeing a lot of '90s and early '00s music popping up on classic rock stations. I understand the sentiment, but to me "classic rock" is pretty much '60s & '70s, '90s is "modern rock". What do you guys think?

I used to feel the same way, but have come to the conclusion that the term Classic Rock is a genre oof music. The same as Easy Listening or Heavy Metal, They are not bound by when they were released. That distinction is left to Oldies. Even music referred to as Modern Rock has a distinguishing sound to it. I'm not sure how old the term Classic Rock is but it seams to me it started back when most of the music included in this category was not that old. Anyway this is a topic that always gets a lot of opinions. I really don't care what it's called as long as it rocks!!
Adam, great topic. Yes, I am hearing that also. I think a desperate attempt to get more people to tune in to the classic rock stations. People are getting bored with the same 500 or so tunes they play. And think maybe we are putting too many labels on all the music. Someone recently promoted a band playing 90's music as oldies. I asked them why?? I was informed anything in the 90's is now considered oldies music.
