I was just using it as an example of a song that as an example of something the masses embrace as the hottest thing since liquid butter but not not everyone cares for.

When Closer to my Home came out out in in 1970 at over 5 minutes for the single version it was only getting airplay on the progressive rock stations of the time. The song only achieved moderate success in the charts but continues to get airplay on classic rock stations world wide.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge GFR fan. I like most of their music but I think by the time they parted ways with Terry Knight their best music was behind them. American Band and Some Kind of Wonderful, two of their later successes just didn't live up to the their previous work. Seeing them on the stage at the Atlanta Pop Festival in 1970 was awesome. Among some of the great rock artists of the time, GFR clearly stood out as high-energy rock and roll. I can still see those tall wall-to-wall Marshall stacks behind the band.

My point is music is highly subjective. One man's Beethoven is another man's screeching cat.  You say "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was the worst song on "Nevermind". I say it was the best and everything went downhill from there. It was never an album I embraced, yet the "Experts" routinely place it near the top of the best albums ever.  I'm not an expert. I'm a consumer.

This is a buffet... take what you like and leave the rest. No need to tell the cook the potatoes suck if you aren't eating any.

When it's all said and done, you might be right but that doesn't automatically make me wrong... Perspective.

So I guess that means you didn't watch the documentary because you don't like Closer to my Home. And if you didn't you missed the fact that GFR sold out Shea Stadium in 72 hours where it took the Beatles 7 weeks. Closer to my Home is not my least favorite GFR song nor is it my favorite by any stretch of the imagination. Actually one of my favorites is... I Can Feel Him in the Morning

I never saw the big deal with Nirvana either. Smells Like Teen Spirit always seems to be near the top of everyone's song list. I don't get that either. I always thought it was kind of pedestrian. (It just proves that music is subjective and diverse.)
