Arguably, it encapsulates everything the genre is about. Written by Ed King, Gary Rossington, and Ronnie Van Zant, the song is a slice of Southern pride, celebrating the land, its spirit, and its music.
Years after its original 1974 release, the song had transcended the category of rock classic -- it had become part of modern American culture.
