Classic Rock Fan Community: Led Zep, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Doors & More

....as other great bands? Don't get me wrong. A LOT of people know about them, but for some reason, they are not held in the same regards as The Beatles or Rolling Stones.....even The Who. Why is that?

Pink Floyd. Weren't 'as big' as Led Zep, but their songs were always played on VH1 Classics. I see, you too are an American. Over here in the UK, they're considered Retro. Which makes them seem 'dated'. Over here, it's about skinny jeans and floppy, hair-styles. Not musical talent....just image.

Whats the Rock scene in general, like in the US?

Who will replace, the old. Say in 20 years time. Most of them will be dead, what will happen then?

Do you mainly listen to Classic Rock, or are there, other genres you like?

I agree that the band has been gone a long time and probably has missed out on a lot of face time due to this fact. I want to start by saying Led Zeppelin is by far my favorite band of all time. However, I disagree that they are not recognized that often or as much as the other band mentioned. Since Zep is my favorite band, I am well attuned to the slight mention of anything Zep. I  see tributes to Zep through movies, bands, critic review ( Other bands Comparisons Etc..) Games. The list goes on and on. Wow! I am amazed that a group with such a relativity short career ( compared to some the other groups mentioned) had so much influence on the rest of the music world. They will be considered the Beethoven of the last century. 500 years from now people will still fall down to these wizards of emotion and classic human drama. I am in awe of there talent. I believe that their music is divine and will last forever.

Why did I hear about the Beach Boys or even Donny Osmand. Yet, Robert Plant, I had to research.

Led Zep, sold over 109 million albums in the US alone....thats crazy. I see that you're an American and I remember in "That 70's Show" Led Zep was always mentioned. So, in the States, what you say is most likely true. However, in the UK nowhere near as much.

Did one of the band members embarrass Britain in the 70's????

Offend!? Oooohhh behave.

Trying to say. There is no need to feel, you have to tip-toe around, saying whats on your mind.

Agreed. However, I would like to see them live once. Come on Robert!

When Zep first started in the UK they went under the name the "The New Yard Birds" and really did not get a chance to explode in the UK due the stigma of the bellowing of the Yard Birds. When they came to America they got a chance to clear the slate, which is why they took off. I believe the Uk holds them in great regards due to all the awards they have won from the UK over the years. In 2008 they held one reunion concert for memory of record producer Egbert. Their were approximately 17k tickets for sale under a lottery system. 18 million applied for the lottery. I wanted to go really bad. The tickets were being auctioned for 8k a piece. I almost refinanced my house but my wife shut me down. I don't think we will ever see a tour of the Gods of rock.

Actually the Yardbirds were never billed as "The New Yardbirds". That was JP's description / idea (Bonzo remarked correctly the idea made the name change proposal sound old - in this case meaning bad - in this case not good bad...) for a name. But they were booked as The Yardbirds. The press (never ones to rapidly later to new circumstances - eh, Rolling Stone...? always printed The Yardbirds, again properly. Just any retro package from books to that fabulous 5 CD compilation of Page Beck era (Glimpses) prints reproductions of all tour posters and press mentions. No "New" Yardbirds.

Frankly they weren't around long enough to become new. Two months in 1968.

Come on dude, i live in southamerica, and led zeppelin is like a religious obligatory divinity for every single rocker...

Thank God! Amen

Perhaps Zeppelin are not given the same type of attention. Firstly they were not a pop group. They were dead against the idea of a single and few Zep numbers have choruses. Much of their music is quite oblique as such; it demands listening and attention, it's not something one does the dishes to while House of the Holy plays. Of course there is nothing wrong with this... ;)

Despite the hit ballads Stairway and All My Love as these were not singles they do not turn up in pub quizzes. No videos really, even the ones that emerged circa the Box set were compiled from a lot of bootleg footage. Yes, I know there are the official and unofficial DVDs but that does not help the top 10 viewer at all.

They are all about  - music. This is a problem for many people who usually talk around the subject (hairstyles, favourite colours, gossip and celeb glam etc) rather than about it. Same problem with many progressive rock bands as well over the years. As an example compare the attention e.g. Michael Jackson got (actual music?).
