Heard the great news? There is an amazing new supergroup on the scene called
Them Crooked Vultures... and they are steeped in classic rock history. They are made up of a certain Mr. John Paul Jones from Led Zep fame, the great Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters fame, and the very under-rated Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age.
The even better news is that Them Crooked Vultures just released their first, eponymously-titled album last week - and let me tell tell you. These guys and this album ROCKS, and sounds like it could have come straigh from the height of the classic rock era.
If you take part Led Zeppelin, part Foo Fighters, part Queens of Stone Age, with a few David Bowie and Cream influences, then you have Them Crooked Vultures and this album in a nutshell. In particular there are some wonderful meandering Led Zep-esque solos - particularly on my favorite tracks - Elephant, Spinning In Daffodils and the new single, New Fang.
If you are a true classic rock fan, and long to hear some great new music in the classic rock mold, then go out and
get this album right now. You won't regret it. I certainly think its one of the best albums of 2009. They also just embarked on a North America tour, and then will be doing a tour of England - so if you are lucky enough to get tickets, you can hear Them Crooked Vultures live in all their glory too!
