The Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Solo of All Time: The Poll

greatest guitar solo

Classic rock fans (like you and I) are forever talking about their choice of favorite classic rock solos - and there is often much debate as to which is the best. So. Thought I would create a poll that will finally put this debate to rest - 'The Greatest Classic Rock Guitar Solo of All Time!

And I spiced it up a little too - I actually TOOK OUT STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN as a choice - mainly because it would probably dominate the votes, just like it did for the 'Best Classic Rock Song of all Time' poll. There are plenty of other great choices - Layla, Purple Haze, Heartbreaker, Free Bird, and more! So get voting - and remember you can only vote once!

After voting, don't forget to check out our other great classic rock polls and quiz!

I've always been a huge fan of Roy Buchanan's "The Messia will come again" or Gary Moore's cover.

I think Larry has a great choice - Terry Kath's solo in 25 or 6 to 4 is legendary - wha wha on a par with Hendrix & Clapton, incredible dynamics and energy!! I hate when radio cuts that song down by 60 seconds to fit their alotted radio time - they always cut the solo!!!

Check out Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover for a great solo in classic rock vein (more fusion, though) Let's not forget Steely Dan's Bodhisattva and others

Sorry if you voted for While My Guitar Gently Weeps!! That's Eric Clapton playing the solo through a Leslie speaker on a Stratocaster - not George Harrison.

Can't bring myself to vote for this as my all time favorite, but Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" should definitely be on the list. It's clearly in my Top 5.

November Rain. I love that solo. I love the leadup to the solo, and that first note grabs you and doesn't let go.

Alvin Lee with Ten Years After did a brilliant solo (IMHO) on "I'd Love To Change The World."

I voted for "Machine gun" off the Band of Gypsys. Hendrix live and totally "on". Still blows me away everytime I hear it. Check it out.

For me this is a toss-up between Freebird and Heartbreaker. The intro and solo from Since I Been Lovin You is also amazing.

If a second vote had been allowed mine would have been for Brian May's Bohemian rhapsody.
But I am emotional on that one.
