When this song was first released in April 1978, it was a flop. Sure, it got good reviews, but the subject matter ( Roxanne is a prostitute, for all who don't know) kept it off the radio in the U.K., and it went nowhere. Later, after the band had toured incessantly , the single was re-released and the rest is history.
