Exploding onto the music scene with much needed vitality come Melody Nelson a power trio for the 21st century featuring bluesman Aidan Connell along with co conspirators Peter Jones (Drums) and Rich.E.Richards (Bass and Vocals) Melody Nelson along with 26 year old singer-guitarist Aidan Connell have delivered incendiary performances opening tours in the UK and Europe for Seasick Steve, The Libertines and Razorlight. Having already gained esteem within the music community Aidan Connell has also worked on studio projects with the newly reformed Mazzy Star and Can frontman Damo Suzuki Weaned on Muddy Waters , Howlin’ Wolf, and Bo Didley, Melody Nelson fuse this deep blues influence with a love of old school rock such as Sabbath and Zeppelin as well as the avant pop of Serge Gainsbourg and Prince. Melody Nelson’s brand of blues combines a guttural blues howl and fluid guitars blending rock, psychedelia and The blues, with every show a mind blowing unique experience, the sonic exploration this group cover in a single show would put most modern rockers to shame.
Leaving a broken home in the suburbs for London to work in various including modelling with Kate moss in a Rimmel commercial and appearing in several publications including Wallpaper and Esquire magazine. During his initial stay in London Aidan found it hard to find like minded musicians with London’s post punk revival in full swing. After holding court backstage with many groups including The Black Crowes, Deep Purple and The Stooges , Aidan decided it was time to get out and perform.
Having popped up on the radar of many well known musicians Aidan was soon sitting in with and learning from an array of musical icons including David Roback of cult favourites Opal, The Rain Parade and most famously Mazzy Star mentored Aidan along his path facilitating his steady rise. With a handful of independent releases, peers showered praise and acclaim for his galvanising performances. Although this was a step forward , always a fan of Hendrix and Cream he felt to really have an impact he would need to get a a solid power trio together. Inspired by Serge Gainsbourg’s 1968 psychedelic rock opus Histoire de Melody Nelson the group went on to secure tour supports for Seasick Steve, The Libertines in 2009, and Razorlight as well as playing headline and supporting tours in Italy, France and Scandinavia.
Having received calls to produce and feature on other artist recordings, Aidan set about constructing the now well known 1500 sq ft rehearsal and Recording facility Goldmine Studios chock full of vintage valve amp and analogue tape this gave new freedom to Melody Nelson stock piling tracks until they felt they were ready to release them on the world. In spring 2012 Melody Nelson release their eponymous album ‘Black Hands’ heavily indebted to the blues greats as well as, Nirvana, MC5 and The Stooges the group never sound retro or earnest, galvanizing a sound that is instant and hard hitting. With a well crafted body of anthemic songs and every show an event not be missed in the words of Seasick Steve; Melody Nelson truly are ‘’The Only Rock’ n’ Roll band in town’’.
