The world has seen some amazing classic rock song writers since the 1960s, with many oustanding, inspirational lyrics in thousands of songs that have enthralled the world ever since.
We saw the genius lyrics from The Beatles' Lennon and McCartney, the amazing philosophical lyrics of Bob Dylan, and the classic lyrics from the Rolling Stones glimmer twins, Jagger and Richards, plus lyrics from many greats like Tom Petty and Janis Joplin. Drugs of course played a major part in the creation of some of the best lyrics too, particularly from the likes of the Doors' Jim Morrison.
I thought I would put together a list of my favorite lyrics from classic rock bands, and give you the opportunity to discuss and add yours too.
Here are some of my favorite classic rock lyrics below. What are yours?
"Before you slip into unconciousness,
I would like to have another kiss,
another flashing chance at bliss."
The Crystal Ship - The Doors
"Many have I loved, and many times been bitten,
many times I've gazed along the open road.
Many times I've lied and many times I've listened,
many times I've wondered how much there is to know."
Over The Hills and Far Away - Led Zeppelin
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night,
"You can't always get what you want,
But if you try sometimes well you just might find,
You get what you need."
You Can't Always Get What You Want - The Rolling Stones

Breathe, breathe in the air
Don't be afraid to care
Leave but don't leave me
Look around and chose your own ground
For long you live and high you fly
And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry
And all you touch and all you see
Is all your life will ever be
Run, run rabbit run
Dig that hole, forget the sun,
And when at last the work is done
Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one
For long you live and high you fly
But only if you ride the tide
And balanced on the biggest wave
You race toward an early grave."
Breathe- Pink Floyd

We can walk our road together
If our goals are all the same
We can run alone and free
If we pursue a different aim

Let the love of truth shine clear

Armed with sense and liberty
With our hearts and minds united

Saw the title of this and was totally gonna do the crystal ship, then I read the description..haha:(
Being the huge Doors fan that I am, and The Crystal Ship was immediately one of my favorites.
Something about those words. I find it completely relatable, and just interesting. I've selected a different part of the song though..
The days are bright and filled with pain
Enclose me in your gentle rain
The time you ran was too insane
We'll meet again, we'll meet again
Oh tell me where your freedom lies
The streets are fields that never die
Deliver me from reasons why
You'd rather cry, I'd rather fly
The crystal ship is being filled
A thousand girls, a thousand thrills
A million ways to spend your time
When we get back, I'll drop a line
To me it just sort of represents the struggle to say goodbye, for now. Perhaps out of different goals, needs, dreams hence the "you'd rather cry, I'd rather fly". I think someone could interpret it as far as seeing it as the two sides of one's self. Whatever. it is so beautiful. haha
Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio.
