THE MARSHALL TUCKER BAND-1973

That great band from Spartanburg, SC. I have a couple of really great audio selections from the boys from Sparkle City.

The first is from 6-19-73 the same time frame as picture above. It was recorded in NYC at Ultrasonic Studios WLIR-FM 92.5 LISTEN.

The other is some early demos from '71. Don't miss THIS! It features early versions of Can't You See and Take The Highway!

Really? Thought you would have liked them - how about the awesome solo in Blue Ridge Mountain Sky? Not a fan of the Allmans either then?

If I may put my two cents in, The Allman Brothers Band never liked being called southern rock. They described themselves as a blues band from the south. After Duane died, and Dickey Betts took a more prominent role, we got songs like Ramblin' Man, Revival, Blue Sky, etc, which to me are more southern rock flavored, unlike Whippin' Post, Dreams, etc, which is in my opinion 'southern fried blues'. As for the Tucker boys, I would classify them as VERY country flavored rock, kinda like Charlie Daniels. I can see Fire on the Mountain being comfortably played on a classic country station as well as a classic rock station. I see both Amstels point and Richs point, but as for me, if I had to classify them, I would be content with 'country rock'.

Saw them over in Germany, actually West Germany at the time back in late 1976 while in the Air Force. Opening bands were Bonnie Bramlett and Grinderswitch. Great concert as I remembered..have the concert poster somewhere if I can find it I'll post a photo. Marshall Tucker released a live European tour album, which was recordings at that time. Available on cd and in my collection.
