Deep Purple are one of those classic rock bands that doesn't get enough credit or air play apart from their huge hit, 'Smoke on the Water'. One of my personal favorite Deep Purple songs is 'Highway…Continue

there was one time during the early 1980s that we thought Deep Purple will be playing in Manila, but just few days before the show, it was announced that its GILLAN the solo band before of Ian Gillan, anyway they played real heavy, the guitarist was excellent, and they did few Purple classics !

Deep Purple were and will always remain my numero uno band out of the big three at that time of their inital popularity between 1968-1976. Sabbath were close contenders but Ozzy always annoyedme, a total bafoon...Led Zep nevr really did it for me, too much folks and country, when they should have stuck to the black dog and custard pie ard rock sound. Purple are another underrated band, contanign my alltime fav. musicans Blackmore and GILLAN, the yin and yang of hard rock music...I loved all MK I, II, III, IV, etc..lineupsminus when wiggie, Joe Lyn Turner temp. disscredited the band withthe awful slaves and masters album.

Yes Rich so true they definetly are one of the most influential bands of all time and all variations of them are just as good because they only have the best musicians and thats where the controversy comes in whats your favorite Deep Purple lineup? Of course most always ride with the second variation where Ian Gillian, Roger Glover, replaced Nick Simper and Rod Evans with the other originals Jon Lord, Ian Paice, and Ritchie Blackmore that spent the most time together even reforming after their first breakup Roger Glover and Ian Gillian left to be replaced by my David Coverdale and Glen Hughes. Then after just one lp Ritchie Blackmore quit and my favorite guitarist joined Tommy Bolin who made one studio lp and a few live ones. This 4th variation did not last long and Purple broke up just to be reformed years later when Blackmore and his band mates got over various issues to reform only to have Blackmore and Gillian get into another dispute where Joe Lyn Turner joined. Well Gillian joined again briefly before him and Blackmore again got into their feud and Blackmore has quit the band since to be replaced by Joe Satriani and now by Steve Morse. I love Deep Purple and bet some others out their do to to give Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath some competion for the best hard rock band lol!
