I remember seeing JIMMY PAGE & ROBERT PLANT in '98 and I had seats on the right handed side of the stage, right in front of JIMMY PAGE...And I think it was the best seat because we could see him up close and see what his guitar tech with all his guitars. It was cool seeing JIMMY PAGE playing that close up and being able to see what goes into what he does to get all those great sounds out of those Gibson Guitars.
And Then in '87 I was at a SANTANA concert and got to meet the band and got thier autographs,And they all were all great down to earth guys.
Man I've always thought Charlie Watts was a cool ass Drummer....
Oh my I have one. Metallica on the Black Album tour. Ok, here goes. It was in Pittsburgh in '92. They were letting people shoot video from the middle of the arena (soundboard, more on that later) I was drinking southern comfort b/f the show and had floor seats.
Anyway lights went out and I ran for the stage. Made it about the 3rd row. James comes out and they do enter sandman. I looked in his eyes and remembered he didn't have one ounce of fear at all and I got jacked and told the people around me to throw me on stage. Yeah, yeah I know but it seemed like a good idea at the time.
So I'm on my way but security pushed me and I fell on my ass. I should have stayed there but nooooo. So 2nd song and 3rd song. (can't remember what song) but I told them to throw me on stage again. So they have me in the air. I am heading right for the stage. Remember the pit b/f the stages? well my ass hits the stage and I fell in the pit.
I figure the best thing to do is act like I am passed out. That idea lasted for about 30 sec. The security guards escort me out. I figure oh, well and I am going out peacefully (really I was)
As soon as I got out of the sight of the band, the guards yank my arms up and hurt me. I got pissed (remember I had beer or in this case whiskey muscles) So I am yelling and calling them on. Other security come and I bolt for one of those big doors the trucks come in.
So I am outside with my shirt torn and a little scuffed and wind up talking to some girls who were not let in b/c they were too drunk.
The next day I go to work, still drunk and my arm in a sling (I did it myself eh,) Anyway someone told me a friend of his had a tape of the concert. I was telling everyone what happened and they pinned the knick- name "hippie" and it stuck.
I bought the tape and watched it. I didn't make the video but after the song, Hetfield looked around and said " I see we got a bunch of crazy fuckers here tonight" It still makes me laugh and I hope it made some of you laugh.
Too bad you didn't make on the video....Very Cool Story, Thanks for letting us in on this one.....
Hell Yeah ED....I would have hoofed it too Brother....And '73 was a Great Tour for them,I'm sure that was a Bad-Ass Show !
