Happy New Year from The Doors Examiner

Happy New Year to all The Doors Examinersubscribers and readers! Thank you for your support in the past year, and I hope you’ll continue to read and enjoy The Doors Examiner in 2012!

2011 The Year in Review: For me 2011 was an exciting and interesting year in the lives of The Doors and their activities, Ray and Robby on tour most of the summer, John inducting Jac Holzman into The Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, and lending himself to charitable and musical projects. Then there was the foray to Paris for the 40th anniversary of Jim Morrison’s death and interviewing Gilles Yepremian. The Doors history articles still amaze me that new information is always coming out and adding and expanding to the fans knowledge of the band. Then there were the books on or about The Doors that came out, a few that come to mind “The Doors FAQ”, “The Doors: A Lifetime of Listening to Five Mean Years”, and “Mr. Mojo Risin’ (aint dead)”, all totaled there were about 8-9 books that came out about some aspect of The Doors, I hope I got most of them. That was last year.

2012-The Future (although uncertain, hopefully the end isn’t that near!). Going into 2012 I’ve been planning ahead some features that will be exclusive to The Doors Examiner including new interviews, celebrity Top 10 favorite Doors songs, book reviews (I’m currently reading Dennis Jakob’s “Summer with Morrison” and find it hard to put down, so look for that review in a day or two). 2012 is also “The Year of The Doors” with a lot of new releases coming out from them including the 40th anniversary edition CD of “L.A. Woman,” as well as shows from the London Fog, and the Matrix, John Densmore’s new book is supposed to be released either this spring or summer, so it will be interesting to see what The Doors themselves have in store for us fans.

Stats and Stuff- 2011 was a great year for The Doors Examiner we got 126,888 reads which is about a 90% increase in the number of reads from the year before! Thank you to all The Doors Examiner subscribers and readers! I couldn’t have happened without you! And thank you for passing the word along to your friends, I hope you keep putting the word out there about The Doors Examiner and I’ll keep looking for new and interesting things about The Doors.

Doors History: January 2, 1962-Ray Manzarek enlists in the army after a bad love affair and quickly realizes the army isn’t for him, and he’s able to get out of the army by telling doctors he feels he’s having homosexual feelings. Ray is soon back in L.A. and enrolls at UCLA and attends the film school.

As with anything, The Doors Examiner doesn’t exist in a vaccum and a lot of people have added to my knowledge of The Doors or contributed pieces of information or ideas some of these include The Doors, Jeff Jampol, Jason Elzy at Rhino Records, Jim Southwick, Alex Patton, Sara Perry, Dave Diamond, Kerry Humphries, Rich Weidman, Ron Clooney, Moses Jones, Jimmy Page, George Winston, Jac Holzman, Gilles Yepremian, Pelle Koornstra, Agnes Flauder, Christophe Maillet. I know there are many others so forgive my memory but I thank you all for your help and support in the past year.

This is getting a bit lengthy, but thank you all again! If you have some spare time feel free to peruse past articles (see related articles below) and don’t forget to turn your friends on to The Doors Examiner! Happy New Year!
