1962 – The Beatles fire original drummer Pete Best and add Ringo Starr to the final lineup. The Beatles then changed the world.
1975 – Peter Gabriel, the founder, vocalist and leader of Genesis, announces that he is leaving the group. Phil Collins takes over the reigns and brings the band much success.
1977 – The King Is Dead! Millions of fans worldwide mourn the death of Elvis Presley. First reported to be a heart attack, it’s later learned that his death is due to drug abuse. Elvis’s personal physician is later found guilty of over prescribing medication to him.
1980 – Bill Ward quits Black Sabbath, Jools Holland leaves Squeeze and Cozy Powell splits from Rainbow. All on this day in 1980.
