Jim Morrison, Poet?

Last week Daniel Nester’s essay ("When You're Strange") on whether Jim Morrison was a great American poet or not has been going around the internet, and while I thought it was going to lead to the usual conclusion, that Jim Morrison’s pretensions at being a poet were greater than his ability, it didn‘t, but it still instilled in me the urge for a response.

40 Years Since Jim Morrison Died. By Cherokee Billie

“I see myself as a huge fiery comet, a shooting star. Everyone stops, points up and gasps, "Oh look at that!" Then- whoosh, and I'm gone...and they'll never see anything like it ever again... and they won't be able to forget me- ever.” Jim Morrison
