1964 – Singer Johnny Burnette (“You’re Sixteen”) dies at the height of his career in a boating accident in Clear Lake, near San Francisco.
1970 – Performance, starring Mick Jagger, premieres two years after it’s completion when the distributor insists that a scene in which Mick and co-star Anita Pallenberg have sexual intercourse be cut.
1971 – One of the greatest indoor rock concerts of all time is held in Madison Square Garden when George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh. Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, Bob Dylan and others perform in this charity event. All proceeds are donated to aid the starving children of Bangladesh.
